Why WMSA Feels Like the Perfect Place for the “We Do Not Care” Crowd
Jul 18, 2025
Lately, I’ve found myself squarely in what the internet has lovingly dubbed the We Do Not Care Club. If you're not familiar, it's basically this: a growing number of women—usually in midlife or dancing with menopause—have finally stopped trying to impress people who don’t matter. We're done dressing up for people we don't know, pretending to care about things that don’t actually affect our lives, or forcing ourselves to fit into uncomfortable molds.
We still care deeply—but only about the stuff that counts: connection, authenticity, laughter, community, ease. And that's exactly what I found when I got involved with Working Moms of San Antonio.
Not Just for Moms My Age—But Definitely Welcoming to Moms My Age
WMSA isn’t built just for one type of woman. It’s a true mix—young professionals, seasoned moms, entrepreneurs, new parents, empty nesters, and everything in between. I’ve met women who are having babies and women who are sending babies off to college. That’s part of what makes it great.
But here’s the thing that surprised me: even as someone not in her 30s anymore, I didn’t feel out of place. I didn’t have to “look the part” or explain myself. I didn’t need to wear a blazer or remember my elevator pitch. I showed up in whatever shoes I felt like wearing, and nobody cared.
And for those of us in that We Do Not Care chapter of life? That’s exactly what we’re looking for.
(If you're curious about that energy, check out the We Do Not Care Club on Facebook—it’s a whole vibe.)
The Opposite of a Performance
I’ve been to women-run networking events before where it felt like everyone already had a best friend, a matching aesthetic, and a perfectly rehearsed intro. And while I fully support women building their brands and doing their thing—I’ve also left those events feeling invisible.
WMSA isn’t like that. There’s no dress code. No hierarchy. No “in” crowd. Just a bunch of women making space for one another—whether that space is to share resources, find friends, get referrals, laugh at the chaos of it all, or quietly observe until you feel like speaking up.
Some of us have big careers. Some are freelancing or starting over. Some are knee-deep in toddler meltdowns, while others are rethinking their whole lives at 50+. You don’t have to match anyone’s energy. You just have to be yourself.
If You’re Tired of Pretending, This Might Be Your People
Whether you're in your 20s figuring out your career, in your 40s figuring out what you actually want, or anywhere in between—it’s refreshing to be part of a group that’s more interested in who you are than how you're packaged.
So, if you find yourself eye-rolling at the idea of “boss babe branding,” or skipping events because you can’t deal with the performance of it all, I get it. I’ve been there.
And I can tell you: WMSA isn’t that.
It’s warm. It’s real. It’s welcoming. And best of all? You don’t have to care about the wrong things anymore.
If You're a Member of the “We Do Not Care” Club…
…you might just love it here.
Because here, we do care—about real connection, shared experiences, and cheering each other on. But we do not care if you wore the same jeans twice this week, forgot your business cards, or haven’t figured out how to introduce yourself without saying, “Hi, I’m a mess, but I’m trying!”
Welcome to the club. And maybe, welcome home.
