I Think Everyone Else Might Have Their Sh*t Together...and Other Lies I Tell Myself

Confession: lately I’ve been feeling like I’m failing a pop quiz I didn’t study for.

Between Working Moms of San Antonio, real estate, and, you know, keeping three children alive, I keep wondering if maybe I’m not doing enough in any one of those areas. Like everyone else is speeding ahead while I’m stuck in slow-mo.

And then comes the dreaded scroll…that thing we all do, even though we know better!

“She hit 6 figures in 6 months.”
“She booked out her services with one reel.”
“She’s juggling motherhood, meal prep, a podcast, and a capsule wardrobe with… ease?”

Meanwhile, I’m over here congratulating myself for remembering to switch the laundry before it smells like a swamp. (Those congratulations really aren’t super plentiful, if I’m honest.)

The Shift

But, here’s where it gets good.

I recently had the absolute pleasure of interviewing Rachel Pedersen (Best Selling Author & Social Media Extraordinaire) for the Working Moms of San Antonio podcast, and she dropped some advice she had received in the past that stopped me mid self-pity spiral. She said someone once told her:

It’s okay if you’re not where everyone else is right now. The best parts of your business might not even have happened yet.

Her take? Those “best parts” will likely show up when her kids are older. And everything she’s built while they’re little? That’s just extra. Bonus points. Sprinkles on the cupcake.

Can we just sit with that for a second? Because it hit me straight in the mom-guilt and it's really stuck with me.

The Truth

Here’s the truth (and yes, I’m talking to you, too):

  • The mom building her business in 15-minute bursts during Paw Patrol reruns? Just as valid as the 7-figure CEO.

  • The woman who hasn’t posted on Instagram in two weeks but showed up for her family 100 times? Still building something beautiful.

  • The business owner who’s pivoting, pausing, or simply trying not to throw her laptop out the window? Still on the path.

Comparison unfortunately loves to pair your messiest Tuesday with someone else’s perfectly polished highlight reel. But friend…you’re not behind.

You’re building a business inside real life.
You’re showing up, even when it’s messy.
You’re growing, even if it looks more like weeds than roses right now.

The Reminder

So let this land:
💙 Slow growth is still growth.
💙 Messy effort is still worthy.
💙 Rest is not falling behind, it’s survival fuel.

If today feels heavy with “not enough,” close the damn apps, refill your coffee, and breathe this in:

You’re not behind. You’re becoming!

And anything you build in this season? It’s not late. It’s extra.

So pass the sprinkles…because you and me? We’re just getting started.
